ASTRODOME SQUARE 810

D+U’s proposal for the Houston Astrodome sought to preserve its iconic legacy while reimagining it as a dynamic public space, welcoming both residents and visitors. The design concept positioned the Astrodome’s 710-foot diameter structure as a cultural and recreational hub, with a versatile mix of uses that evolved throughout the day. The revitalization aimed to enhance the Astrodome’s role as a civic landmark, incorporating commercial and residential developments that would catalyze surrounding urban growth. By transforming the dome into a central “hub,” the design connected key Houston districts like spokes on a wheel, encouraging a broader, integrated vision for city-wide development.
